About Me

  • About RayPage
    Zone 7, Ennis, Texas
I've almost always had a garden. My mother had gardens and my father came from a farming background.
Until recently we lived Northwest Indiana where the soil is a little more accomodating than this caliche soil we've found in Ellis county Texas!
I worked my Indiana garden for about 15 years.
Over the time we lived there our gardens were set, moved and enlarged until the last incarnation.
It was a 28ft by 42ft raised main garden and 2-8X8ft small gardens.
I then got my dads' Troybuilt Bronco rear tine tiller and converted 90% of the rest of my citylot backyard to herbs and flowers, (10% was left because my loving wife, who did not understand my "mission", refused to allow me to finish. She actually stood in front of the tiller!).
We came to Texas and purchased a home on 2 acres with a pond and a creek branch beside it.
    We were in love!
Then came summer. The branch, pond and caliche all dried up. Most of our plants died and the most thriving plants, weeds, took over.
We joined the Green Garden Club in Waxahachie where we met the most wonderful people and started our education of growing things in caliche.
