My filled containers, waiting to go outside into the snow.

Snow is a wonderful insulation for the seeds ! Dont worry if they get covered in snow !

Diane, NO...they need the air circulation, and that allows the rain and snow to get inside and keep the soil moist. Tops go in the trash when I am collecting containers.

Is that how you put them outside, face up with the lid off,, i thought upside down with slits, this looks alot easier for uncrafty folks like me, i really want to do it,, do you use the regular dirt,, perlite mix,, peat, potting soils, seed starters mix or doesnt it really matter at all,, blessings, beth

Diane, if you mean the 'caps' that come with the containers, NO...they need air circulation, and that small hole, allows enough snow and rain to get inside to keep them moist

Beth, you want the soil to be as light and fluffy as you can make it, to allow good root development. This is exactly how they look when I sit them outside.
