My partner and I live Kensington, MD, southwest of Baltimore City. We've been in this house two years and still consider ourselves "new" to the neighborhood. We work hard to keep the place looking good and never seem able to catch up! We rent out our old house, so we (try to) maintain that garden, too. The previous owner was German, so there is no lawn whatsoever; just flower gardens. Imagine! We have huge herbs and a MONSTER fig tree that gives hundreds of figs every fall. We get volunteer pumpkins in the compost heap every year and the tomatoes and strawberries do all right. The gladiolas are healthy, the lily of the valley spreads like crazy, our lavender bush is HUGE and my lemon-scented rose makes my day every time I walk by. I LOVE that garden.

Our "new" house has a fish pond out back and gardens all around the perimeter. Still trying to fill in bare areas in which the previous owners put annuals each year. Slowly filling it in with the help of all my PlantSwap buddies (thank you, thank you, thank you!).

When gardening season slows down, we turn our attention indoors and continue painting the walls. Haven't gotten very far--we've gotten used to spackle spots all over the place. We did all the prep-work at once, now each winter we paint another room. SUCH slow going! Other than the house and garden, I love to read and dance (zydeco, salsa, Argentine tango, whatever). We also like to throw parties for our friends and visit our absolutely perfect nieces and nephews.

Hoping more Baltimore area gardeners will join us!
