Howdy from LaredoWe're pretty dry over here. I'm working on veggies for the first time in a while, as well as flowers. We've got the cactus thing down, but the rest is a learning experience. Does anybody know if compost can be supplemented with anything to make up for a shortage of grass clippings? Take care! |

| Let me suggest you get in touch with your local Master Gardeners in Laredo through your local Ag. Extension Office. You are correct in saying that gardening in such a hot, dry climate is a very daunting task to say the least. You may do best in raised beds with purchased organic garden soil and purchased ground hardwood mulch to help the bed retain moisture. The only in ground gardening I can imagine there is native plants that have adapted to the harsh growing conditions and very alkaline soils of your area. I am a Master Gardener in Travis County/Austin and know that this is an excellent source for gardening information and tips specific to your county and surrounding area. WELCOME TO THE FORUM. |
