| Just curious about anyone who might have gardening questions, concerns, etc. about gardening in this part of the state. Or, maybe there is someone out there who might be able to answer one of my gardening questions. It is just a way to get a discussion started. I suppose someone will answer soon. |

FW Plant Swap April 12, 2008Well, it's spring at last! The Ft Worth Plant Swap is April 12 at Trinity Park. Here's one thread about it: http://forums.gardenweb.com/forums/l...302933.html?59 & you can read about it in this morning's Dallas Morning News http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcont...n1.369768.html DustBunny, you might want to check out the Denton Swap, it might be closer for you. It's on the same Exchanges page as the first link for the FW Swap. Last edited by sylviatexas; 03-28-2008 at 10:25 AM. Reason: to mention the Denton Swap for Dust Bunny |

| Gardening up here on the windswept prairie of Plano, TX. I have a kitchen/english style garden along the north side of our home. Has plenty of southern exposure and warm rock wall to keep the temperatures moderate. Harvested parsley, spinach, various herbs most of the winter. Still watching the daffodils bloom, perrenials and roses leafing out. Saw our first Monarch butterfly last weekend. Bumble bees too. Spring is here! |

Here in North Dallas areaI'm new to this forum and missed the plantswap last weekend. It would have been fun to meet everyone. My Mother is looking for a climbing orange rose to put on a North facing bed (very shaded) and we will be visiting North Haven Gardens tomorrow. They seem to have a lot of information on their website (know I learned about the Japanese Maples that survive well here from them). I have 4 JMs in my front yard now. 2 Crimson Queen, 1 Red Dragon and 1 Shin Deshojo. I'm considering a Mikawa Yatsubusa, but we'll see what happens. I can't wait till fall to see their colors. I would appreciate any suggestions on an Orange climbing roses that survive well here. I don't know much about roses, and would appreciate a reply. |

orange climbing roseNorthaven has wonderful roses! but roses need lots of sun; I don't think a heavily shaded northern exposure would give your mom the kind of results she wants. can't think of a pure orange climber, but Joseph's Coat has many beautiful colors including a soft orange, & it's a healthy climber. It has healthy thorns, too! Best luck, & have fun! |

oragne climbing roseThanks Sylvia I didn't consider the sun exposure for the rose. She just had a trumpet vine planted in that spot, but found it may have some poisonous aspect to it. Her cat and dog have access to that area and my current bout with Poison Ivy made her decide to remove it. she doesn't want push her luck. I'll do some more research and check out the Joseph's Coat. |
