The Last Outside Bloom of 2012

This is the very last flower of 2012 in my garden. It's my Confederate Rose I grew from seed way back in 2006.

Thanks everyone!

Well I was wrong .. The Confederate Rose is not the last .. I stepped outside my front door and was greeted by Naughty Nick Brugmansia gone wild with more to come! Since I work out of my house, I usually don't go out to the front yard unless something needs watering or I need to go somewhere.

Thanks! It was a total surprise .. I like the green bits with the yellow. It's amazing how temperature can change the color and form of brugs .. especially double brugs. In warmer weather the skirts are not separated and the color is more golden.

Temperature has an effect pretty much on all flower colors .. I find roses the most prominent - others are more subtle .. like the brug.

Here is a picture of the last blooming flowers that I have. I think that they are actually frozen in time because we have had temps in the 20s and these babies keep smiling up at me. They are no longer growing, but they have not decided to die either. They are in a sheltered corner by the door, but the cold winds still get to them - I was really impressed with their survival.

They are but unfortunately I did not plant any this year - I hope to do better with my gardens next year though.

Come on now Bali, that did not sound so encouraging Just you wait and see. I will have my wintersowing jugs just blooming with stuff to put out into the garden, flowers, veggies, the works The gardens will be snapdragon and flower happy and I will have enough veggies to can and share.
Ya right - I can still dream you know
