Setting an avatar

How does one add a personal avatar?

Under the Quick Links menu in the navigation bar at the top of the page, there is a link to your User Control Panel. In there, you can find a link to edit avatar among other things (like your signature) in the menu to the left.

I found that earlier but the button is set on "don't use avatar" and I can't change that for some reason.

I don't see anything in the forum configuration that would prevent you from setting your avatar and I've seen some of the other new forum members using one, so I'm not sure what is happening on your end. Have you tried selecting one of the generic avatars available in the system or uploading one of your own custom images already? Did you get an error message?

OK, now I know that by selecting one of the avatars will put something out there, but still don't know how to upload a personal avatar. Attached is the avatar I am trying to load. This procedure is not clear or intuitive.

I'm sorry the process was confusing. I changed the avatar for you.

There are two parts to the avatar editor - one where you can choose from some more or less random images which I've provided, and below that a second form where you can choose to upload or link to a custom avatar (you need to check the field to indicate you want to use a custom avatar).

Under "Edit Avatar" I am seeing only a current avatar box and a pre-defined avatar box but nothing that allows someone to upload a custom avatar. Please check this out on your end. It is not showing on my end. Am I still missing something?

OK, I found an additional setting in the forum configuration for enabling custom avatars. I wasn't aware that it existed. Sorry for the confusion! You should now be able to set (and change) your own custom avatars as you like.
