New To Plant Swap!

Everyone I am new to Plant Swap. I`m from Pa.[IT IS VERY COLD HERE TODAY!] I`ve been gardening for years, more then I care to remember! I`m 62 and love my gardens. I ache sometimes when I`m done for the day in my gardens, but oh the rewards are worth it!! I grow a variety of flowers and bushes. Hope to be able to contribute and learn here.

Hi Gram, welcome to the forums!

Hope you all stay warm and safe up there in the north east. I don't like the cold so much. I much prefer tropical climates.

Wow, I'm the total opposite. It's the middle of December and I'm wearing a T-shirt. I'm brand new to gardening and have so far only been successful at destroying my backyard. I'm hoping to put in lots of fruits and veggies this Spring to replace the tallow trees and junk that I'm tearing out of there. I guess I joined here to see if I could trade for edibles and meet gardeners in my area (77062).

Happy Holidays,

Scott.

Hi Scott, welcome to the forum.

Yes, there are several gardeners here from the Clear Lake area. In the Spring, there should be announcements for 2-3 plant swaps in the Houston area.

I prefer edibles myself and should have a plant or two for you.

Hi Scott, You are in the same ZIP code that we moved from in Jan 06. We used to live in Bay Forest in Clear Lake and now reside in NW Austin. I gardened in that area for 15 years but only ornamentals, no veggies. I have had to transition to a new and different gardening environment in Austin but was a Master Gardener in Harris County for many years. Welcome to this forum.

Thank you both.

Plants swaps sound like lots of fun. I hope I can find something to offer. I've got a batch of fig cuttings I'm trying to propagate. I'm also searching for some bamboo which seems to cost a fortune to buy.

I plan on taking some master gardener green thumb classes next year. They seem like a knowledgeable bunch . And it's great they have an extension right here in clear lake.

They are a lot of fun and you should go even if you don't have anything to offer. There are always lots of plants that are given away and you'll meet a bunch of nice neighbors.

Thanks, I will keep an eye out for any ones coming up.

I just noticed you're in Friendswood. My wife's parents and brother's family live there. Someone told me there were some horse stables that give away manure in that area. Have you been bold enough to out there and collect any?

No, not yet. My SIL has a few horses too, but I've never asked for any natural fertilizer from her either. I'm still thinking about setting up a composting bin, but I have not as yet moved forward with that project.

hey

Hi Gram,

Love your Nelly pic. Got one myself. Beautiful in the springtime. Was going through a few catalogs today and decided to add to my clematis collection. Plan on digging out more sod along the fence this summer and i really like the horizonal effect that vines bring to the garden. Can always make a little more room for a few more plants.
