Look what's in my hanging basket!

I know it isn't the greatest picture. But there are little eggs with brownish freckles on them. Does anyone know if I can still water my plant?

Oh-h-h how precious. My birds seem to all nest in my spirea, flame, pyracantha, etc. bushes. At least there's lots of little bird activity every time I walk by there. I sure wish they'd build a nest where I can peek in from time to time.

Don't know how long Mom will let you near that next but if it was me I'd get a little piece of pipe (PVC) and wiggle it into the soil as soon as possible. That way you can pour water into the pipe and down to the roots without getting the eggs and soon babies wet.
Good Luck

too adorable.

my mother has a small garden shed that she has almost completely emptied due to a cardinal nesting in there. my sister in law thinks shes crazy to give up her entire shed for one bird and babies. i think she rocks. and i don't think watering it would hurt. but i would do what bernie said or just water it during the day so the nest can dry out before night and cold. that is awesome. let us know who did it and when they hatch. it's like a birdie sitcom. OMG so and so had three eggs what a whore.......jk, adorable.

Ok y'all. I took a peek today. There is one egg that has some of the shell gone and you can see this tiny curled up thing. Another egg has wormes coming out. I am thinking they are gonners, but the other eggs seem unharmed. Should I do anything? I ask because I was gonna take the basket down anyway and move the plant that was in it. But if there is some hope then I wont bother the little fellas....

I would carfully remove the bad eggs..chances are mom bird has abandoned them becase of to much human activity near the nest. But you can try to see if she will still care for that 3rd egg.

I wouldn't touch anything. The mom shall remove whatever she doesn't want in there, be it dead babies or whatever. Give it at least another day and try to stay away and let her do her thing. We have several birdhouses and in my experience they are more than capable of taking care of what needs to be done. Either that or see if you can get hold of one of the Audubon centers, email and ask them.

An egg with worms means it has been dead for some time and that can and will infest the other eggs and momma bird. It is not the type of worms the bird will eat im sure. But for the egg to get like that chances are mom bird is long gone.

Have you seen the mom bird come an go from the nest?
Also if part of the shell is gone from the other eg, somthing has likely been picking at it.
