SmileHi!

Just joined, and am saying Hello to all! I really enjoy my time gardening, however I'm a total novice. Do I need to know the correct name for a plant to be active on this site? If so I'm in big trouble. The growing season is ending here, so it's going to be a long winter of paging through gardening catalogs. That, and watching the snow banks grow

Hi Joan, welcome to the forum!

No, you do not need to know the proper or scientific names for plants to talk here (though it may help in some cases - especially when asking for advice). You can always take a picture and upload it to the gallery if there is any confusion.

I don't know the names of most of my plants - I just love digging in the dirt and watching things grow.

Hi Joan, I may be the member responsible for quoting the botanical names of plants but please don't let that bother you. We are delighted to have you as a participant of this new Forum. We are all learning things together.

Botanical names are really helpful if you know them. It will save a lot of confusion when you find plants with the same common name. That aside this is a great site to learn the Botanical names of plants, believe me I am at the bottom and have a long way to go before I can learn the name of even the plants in my yard. We are really glad you joined and we all learn from each other. Welcome aboard Joan.
