Smilesnake plants....

my brugmansias (angels trumpets) get spider mites and aphids (I never had whiteflies on my brugs), outside I use malathon to kill them, but during the winter I get a pail and mix lemon juice, lemon dawn, and water and dip the plants in that mixture, bugs don't like the citrus or "citric acid" and it kills them, I do this throughout the winter to control them. The brug pic i put here is a 6-7 yr old tree and it was in july 2008. If you use my lemony mixture to wash off bugs, leave the soap on for 1-2 minutes, then wash them off good with warm water, I do this in the shower. I never have bugs on my snakes though. I do get fungus gnats that live in the soil, but I don't think they harm anything.

Hi.. thought I'd share a pic of my snake plant. I noticed the tiny stake a couple of weeks ago. It's been growing ever since.

Snake Plant

I have snake plants that bloom, they have to be root bound to bloom. But mine smell like Jasmine when they bloom. I have never seen the blooms make seeds. I just separate a piece from the main plant and root it. Not much help, I know!

I just got one on sale at Lowes but it did not have a tag in it so I was wondering how I care for it and also when do I need to put it in a bigger pot? it is pretty root bound in the one it is in now.

Mine wasn't rootbound, I had bought it in a 6" pot and moved it to a 10", its the sunlight that made mine bloom but its different in other areas, elevation, humidity, soil type all play a role.

Smilesnake plane

My snake plant/mother-in-laws tongue is over 40 yrs old and belonged to my Mom. It started blooming 3 yrs ago. This yr it has bloomed twice in 4 months and has produced many new ferns.
