Your plant appears to be Schefflera arboricola (syn. Heptapleurum arboricolum).

Thanks zuzu

Much appreciated, it belonged to a friend that recently passed away, I want to make sure I take care of it the best way I can. An ID definitely helps.

That ID is correct. They are a fairly easy plant to grow. Common name is Dwarf Hawaiian Scheffelera

Looks nice and healthy so far!
I think it may be easier to say if you just continue to call him Dirk!

Indoor Plant ID please

Hi cicindy, zuzu and Bob

Dirk was the name of my friend that passed away, and yeah I know it may seem a bit cheesy but every time I see the plant I think of him.

He was a wonderful person, and had absolutely no idea of the impact he made on so many people. A very humble man, but what a wonderful friend. I consider my life much richer for having met him.

He never married and there were no children, so you can bet I am going to propagate plant Dirk. Then send his children everywhere I get the chance, in the hope that the Dirk babies bring as much happiness as he did.

I guess I am getting soft/soppy in my old age.

An easy plant to take care of and very forgiving. Plant 'Dirk' should live a nice long life.

Hey, nothing soft or soppy about that.
I love your story of how your plant is one more way that a cherished friend keeps a daily presence in your life, and I feel sure that most (if not all) of the folks at this site can relate. I know that I certainly do.

Woo a dear friend of mine gave me a strawberry pot full of Hen and Chicks (Semperviums). I felt guilty taking it because it was so nice. It was one of her personal planters. Since then my friend has passed away and every time I look at the planter I think of her. Her name was Ellen so I call this particular variety of Hen and Chicks, "Ellen" and I am thankful she gave it to me. It is a living memorial to her just like your plant is to your friend.

We keep an ARROWHEAD VINE Syngonium podophyllum growing outside in the summer and inside in the winter; we call it the 'Jackie' plant as it came from Uncle Jackie who passed several years ago. My Star Magnolia reminds me of a Mr Braccio who taught me 'ruthless' pruning methods. I grow Coleus in memory of Jane, the woman who sparked my interest in gardening by teaching me to pinch Coleus.

One is never alone when surrounded by plants.

When I was pretty young I went to see my Dad and ended up getting a tiny cactus. It was the last time I saw my Father alive. The cactus grew to an enormous size after several years, but I eventually lost it to slugs after putting it outside for the summer. I was so sad when I lost it, but now any cactus really reminds me of him. He loved to garden And showed me a lot when I was young...I miss him.

The love in this thread is awesome.

My mother has grown a sword lily out to monstrous size because it was on of the plants given to her best friend's family at the funeral.

Wow nice aquarium set up, commercial or extreme hobbyist?
Nice discus too, they are really hot right now, but I am sure you know this.
