Herb garden on the kitchen window?Does anyone here grow an herb garden indoors by a kitchen window? I've always thought it would be convenient to have fresh herbs growing in the kitchen, but wonder if any would grow well (like oregano). |

| Most herbs grow well only in full sun or very light shade. Although I have little experience with growing herbs, I would guess that unless you have a window that gets full sun 6 or more hours per day, it wouldn't be worth trying or your results might be much less than desired. |

| I've planted plenty of herbs (chives, basil, cilantro, parsley, mint, dill, etc.) on windowsills. Even planted lettuce too. The only thing is that the small pots (the type that fit on windowsills) needs frequent attention. You have to water it all the time. And depending on direction of the window and the size of the window, that dictates how often you rotate the plant to keep them growing properly. TLC |

| I usually start my herb seedlings off in the kitchen on the window sill. SO far I have successfully grown garlic, chives, basil, rosemary, chillies and even lavender and parsley. But they grow so quick that I have to take then outside into the back yard. I never tried lettuce yet. Incidently, my dogs are quite naughty and they actually climb onto the kitchen cupboards to get to the garlic. (Maybe another reason why I cannot keep the herbs in the kitchen) |
