oh, one more thing.
if you or anyone else is thinking about a pond with fish and ,like me ,you're kinda learning as you go, start out with feeder goldfish [for those who aren't familiar, feeder goldfish are sold as live food for snakes, turtles ect.] . 22 cents at the local pet store and their needs are pretty much the same as koi.
Of the 40 or so fish in my pond 10 are koi and rest are feeders.

I agree with you about the feeder fish! I have a small fountain with a 40 gallon catch basin. Twice I've accidentally killed the feeder goldfish!!! Once I put in too much algacide. And once when I added water from the hose, I had run out of the declorinator that I kept by the fountain. When I went inside to get a spare bottle, I got tied up on the phone. 20 minutes later when I went out to add it, I was too late! My poor babies!!!

WOW. pond. yummy.
i kept looking at the two pics. couldn't decide which one i prefered. before. after. before. after. it's not like a plastic surgery. in which case it is clear. unless it goes wrong.
well... OK. the after. wider, bigger... yup. ok. made up my mind
LOL

wish i had one. but i don't think i will. the best i will do in spring is have a really big plastic container. or maybe clay ???
wide and low and but a waterlily... and maybe have a small cute beta fish ???

Comet goldfish are nice--they look a lot like a Koi. They are very hardy and done't seem to be as dirty as regular godfish. Be careful though for those who live in colder climate. I had a nice comet named Oscar and forgot to take him in to the acquarium when it started getting chilly. Early on we had one very chold night. Poor Oscar, who had been a nice orange and white, turned solid white and never got his orange back again.
