California forum

I think there are enough Cali gardeners here now, so I've created a state forum for you (by request).

Santa Barbara is one of my favorite areas. I spend quite a bit of time in SoCal and seriously enjoy my visits to your fine town ;-)

Have you ever dropped by the botanical gardens? Beautiful walk along the bluffs and a good representation of local flora. They have an excellent rhododendron collection supported by one of the premier rhododendron nurseries; Descanso Nurseries. Glad you dropped by to visit our area, hope you return soon!

I was just at the botanical gardens a few weeks back. I always stop there when I am traveling up the coast.

Hi, I have been to Fresno too ! Boy you get hot in that area. I think more consistently hot in the summer than we do. What are your favorite plants that you grow. Of course my brugmansia's are mine, but I love my daylily's, Iris's, Hellebores and so many other plants too.

Patricia

ues it gets plenty hot and a nice yard is a challenge when we spends 'months' in excess of 100..tropicals do great and cacti of course..
I think my favs are hollyhocks, roses, datura/brugmansia (would you believe I do not have 1?)had purple people eaters until my boxer , who has moved away, decided she liked emptying pots (also did in a red maple I was bonsai'ing), Irises, Irises, and did i mention irises? , daylilies..:P
bottlebush, potato tree, wisteria!! and pond plants..:P

It sounds like we have pretty much the same growing conditions, only our real hot day's usually only last for about a week or so at a time. This summer our entire month of September was hot though and it took a real toll on my brugs.
You should make a trip down to see me next Spring when they start blooming.
Are you interested in any more brugs.?
