I don't want to come off as being offensive or anything. I would probably use frontline in a situation like yours actually. You are taking in a new dog...I too would want to make sure my other dogs don't get flees and bugs and stuff too so by no means am I trying to tell you that what you are doing is wrong... I'm just saying that I don't feel it's necessary to put the frontline stuff on your dogs on a regular basis...only when you have a real problem with the bugs. So please don't take offense, I'm only suggesting that you research the product before you commit to using it on a monthly basis as the manufacturer and vets recomend...

Salvia....I understand your concern, and am not offended....you have a right to be careful and have your own views...

I've also worked with animals and dogs all my life, and am certified as an animal care specialist....I've worked for a vet, as well as a professional dog trainer and trained dogs at a guide dog school.....where we always used frontline. We've never experienced a problem with it when used according to the package directions, and only as needed. Do I agree that caution needs to be taken with these products??...absolutely I do! I have heard of bad reactions, and such....... but I'll assure you, that I know what I'm doing as well, and that isn't meant to tell you off in ANY way....I really mean, I just have a lot of experience in this field and am always careful.

I appreciate your input and warning....if people were too afraid to warn one another of potential problems....well, that would BE a problem in itself.
Take care!

Very true, although you are only supposed to apply frontline or advantage approximately 3 days after giving your animal (cat/dog) a bath as the skin will absorb the application if you don't wait. So not only will it be useless applying it directly after a bath it will also be absorbing the pesticide/insecticide into your animals body possibly causing harm to them.

Please don't take this as a argumentative statement, only as helpful advice.

Ever since researching the actual ingredients in frontline, we have never used the product since and have never had a problem with fleas or ticks. My mother also used fronline on her dog (about a 15 year old dog) and while it was used her dog used to make all sorts of complaining noises...wimpering and crying...until I told her the side effects of the product and she stopped using it...now she acts like a 12 year old dog again...of course she still has problems because of her age, but she is doing much better. I would recomend doing some research before using the product on a regular basis. Once again this is only my opinion of a product and I hope it is not too controversial for the site, but when black walnuts are discussed as being bad for horses I think that chemicals being applied to dogs should have some place here...hope you all agree. Would I use frontline again?.....as a last resort, Maybe, but only as an absolute last resort.

keep in mind too, black walnuts are a plant, and it was being offered here....we also give warnings about poisonous houseplants and garden flowers that may poison your pets should they eat it....
all good stuff to know for a plant forum.

yes, she is sleeping through the night....thank goodness....
Both dogs have their own bed, Nuka's is on the floor near my side of the bed and Sandy's is by Greg's side. They both try to herd us to bed by 9 each night. LOL
So far so good, she has been really good and seems to learn things quickly. She sits when told, doesn't chew on things that aren't hers, she has her moments of play, but doesn't get out of control....she seems to understand rules pretty well, and is already protecting the house when someone knocks... too cute. I think she is going to grow into a very good, loyal dog.

You could just eat those two up! What a sweet pair. She really sounds like a good baby. How old is she Natalie?

Sorry bout going off on the little rant before...

Sounds like you do have lots of experience in the animal department (a heck of a lot actually). I'm sure the new one is being welcomed into a wonderful loving home and will be very well taken care of. And you are right. Offering warnings is a good thing...just as long as we don't push our beliefs onto others a I hope I didn't come across as doing that because I really don't want to push my beliefs onto anyone. And yes, it is especially good to have some warnings about the plants that can harm our animals.
You are also right that when used appropriately, all sorts of things are safe. I guess frontline is just one of the things that scares me a bit.

That's so cute that they round you up for bedtime. Our little guy Shortie does that too...only he only lets us stay up till 8-ish usually. And then in the morning our other dog Pennywise starts growling to wake us up at 6 am. She is our alarm clock.

all is ok, salviadreamer....I appreciate you taking the time to write all of that.

Isn't it amazing how muchthey become a part of the family...and so fast? Greg was saying that this morning too, he was playing with her, and she started to jump on him, lick him...and last night, a neighbor stopped by and she sat at my feet, barking at him, and just in a total protection mode.....He was like, isn't it funny/amazing how fast they just LOVE you?
Total trust ..... it's just amazing.
