monthly seed drawing group

Hey everyone, I started a new group for a monthly seed drawing....a continuation of ok-nurse's group! I'm sure it's going to be a little different than how she did it, but it's the same idea.
Once you join, I'll pm you all my address and you can send in your seeds!

This is the post for the monthly random seed drawing. The idea is that you send a packet of seed to me and I will do a random drawing on the first of each month and send all the packets to the winner.
Here are the rules:

PICKING YOUR SEED:
1. Your entry of seed can be from your garden or the store. You can send just one kind or several kinds, just make sure they are fresh-no 2003 growing season please (I know I hate to plant duds!). If they are from your garden-wrap them in a cellophane, label and tape shut before placing in the envelope.
2. The seeds can be vegetable or flower-or both. Please limit to 5 packets a month though. You will only get one name in the hat to draw regardless of how many packets you send so one packet is fine. (Some people just like to be super generous!)
3. Be considerate of the planting time when you choose your seed to send. If it is the end of summer-don't send tomato seeds unless they will be good to grow indoors in the winter (for the next season). Perennial flower seed (plants that come up each year) can be grown indoors anytime so I think you'd be fine sending that anytime. It can be transplanted outdoors in the spring after 8 months in a container-as long as it doesn't grow too large or "viney" in the container. Just give it a little thought and send what you would like to receive.


SENDING YOUR SEED:
4. The drawing will take place on the first of each month. Please get your seeds to me before then. If I get seeds after the first, I'll think they are for the next month's drawing. You can send in seed any time for the next month.
5. Write your SCREEN NAME and TYPE OF SEED on EACH packet.
6. Label each packet with the MONTH you want it submitted.
(Without instructions-I will include all seed packets sent in the next month's drawing.)
7. Please include "GROWING INFORMATION". A simple google should give you all this info. You can just print off the sheet and slip it in the envelope for the winner. Information should include the plant name, days to germinate, special soil if needed, height, sun needs, water needs, annual or perennial, and any other "special information", such as if its a vine and invasive or slow growing, if you know more. If you'd like to slip a picture of your "mother" plant in with it-I think that would be wonderful-but not required. Just simple info will do. If it comes from one of your own garden plants and you don't know the name of it just give the info you know like color, height, bloom time and if its growing in full sun or shade.
8. For one packet of seed, you can usually just send it in a regular white envelope, but for bulky seeds or several seed packets, please us a larger envelope. You can write "seeds-please hand cancel" on the envelope and hand it to your local postmaster to be sure it doesn't go through the cancel machine if the envelope is a little bulky. You are also welcome to send your seeds in a bubble wrap envelope- bought at a local dollar store 2/$1 if you would like to do that.

What I will do:
9. I will let you know when I receive your seed-if you haven't heard from me-PM me-I may not have gotten your seed.
10. I have an accordian file that I keep all the seed in that has been sent to me. I will distribute the seed into the monthly floders according to your direction and post the entries for that month.
11. On the Sunday before the first of the month (at least five days before the 1st) I will post on this thread the list of the people who sent me seeds (here) and remind everyone that wants to participate to get their seed in the mail.

On the first of each month I will put everyone's name in a hat who participated and have my 3 yr old draw out the winning name. I will post who won and PM them for their address so I can send them their seeds! Woo Hoo!
The winner MUST PARTICIPATE for three times before they can win again but then they will be allowed to win again.This drawing will continue as long as there are five participants who send the seed to me.

HOW TO GET STARTED:
Private Message (PM) me by clicking on my highlighted name above until the drop box appears and click "send ok_nurse a private message". Title the message "Monthly Drawing" and tell me you want to participate and I will send you my address so you can send me your "donation" of seeds. You are welcome to keep my address for consecutive monthly drawings. If I have a problem with stalkers at my home address trying to steal my plants, I will have to stop the contest, uproot all my plants and move out of the country. In other words-make sure that if you give my address to a friend, that they are also a plantswap member before they participate!
