pumpkin patch

We are planning on putting in a large pumpkin patch in our field, along the roadside and making a "pick your own pumpkin patch" this coming year.
I've always wanted to do that.
Anyone else do stuff like that?
I also need to know the best time to plant pumpkin seeds so you have nice big pumpkins by October, but not so early that they are rotting by then either.

i was reading on another forum & saw someone post this:

"Usually if you get seedlings started in July and planted in early August, you will have a good crop by mid-October."

Thanks both of you! So many pumpkins...the seeds will be directly sowed in the ground....they typically don't like to be moved anyway. It's going to be fun.

What a great Idea BB. Wish you lived closer the girls would love to pick out their own next year.

Here is a web site that I found that might be helpful to your growing experience.

Lightbulb

Don't forget to grow Gourds and mini pumpkins. Those are always a big hit, oh and Different types of popcorn. Corn stalks also sell well for decoration. I'm so jealous, I wish we could do stuff like that around here.

Ugh, living in the city...
