heirloom squash

I'm really into heirloom veg of all kind, particularly tomatoes. Now getting more into winter squash/pumpkin. I find them a treat to grow and so delicious. Anyone willing to swap heirloom squash (or interesting variety) seeds? Have a few now.

I like heirlooms too. What squash do you have? I have to look in my seed box to see what I have left.

SmileHeirloom squash

Hi Wrennie, I think I have to change my name. I didn't realize there was another Gardenguy. Anyway, I have Galeux d'eysines, Rouge Vif D'etamps, Musquee de Provence, (3 french heirlooms), Cheyenne Bush Pumpkin and Delicata Winter Squash. I also have the more common vegetable spaghetti and Waltham Butternut. I am just getting started and would like to add to this.

No, I guess it was a water issue.

Miss Zonen 4 Human, try keeping a veg garden alive through 45 days of above 100 degrees and virtually no rain to speak of and water rationing. I will shed a tear for all the lost plants in Deans garden. I lost some desert plants this year.

I lost some of my prize babies too. I watered every day but the heat was too much and they would limp and burn. Its starting to look like spring around here again now. I love the cooler weather. Everything grows so nice.
Anyway-about that squash. No one I ever knew cooked much squash but i love the summer squash with a bit of butter and brown sugar. How do you cook yours? Would love to see some of those simple recipes (you know the "cut in half and nuke on high for ? minutes with ? spices" kinda recipes). I'll try buying it at the store this fall and maybe next fall (in Australia?) I'll plant it myself!

Simple Recipes

Hi Okay Nurse, simply roast or steam cut up squash, mash with butter and milk and serve as a healthy side dish. If you're more ambitious, substitue winter squash/pumpkin for carrots in carrot cake loaf recipes. Or, of course you can use mashesd squash in any pumpkin pie or cheesecake recipe. One of my faves - Use it mashed with parmesan and ricotta to fill ravioli wrappers. Loaded with vitamin A and fibre, a healthy veg that stores for months in the cellar. The darker the colour flesh, the sweeter.

Anyone feel like sending some squash seeds to me, in exchange for my eternal & unconditional love?...

........... or maybe some postage, along with all that unconditional & eternal love... lol

I do have some seeds, I just don't know what all I have. Nothing is heirloom, though. Mainly a bunch of herbs & some Asian veggies.. Like Korean radishes & adzuki beans & that kinda thing.

I used to grow both Blue and Grey Hubbard squash when I lived up in the N.E.
I have been looking in my seed catalogs , and hav'nt seen seed for them in the past few years.I believe they would grow here in zone 8. Really a great tasting squash if you have the room for the vines.
