Edible Flowers?I was thinking about Monsoon Wedding, a movie I saw some time ago where one of the characters eats raw Marigolds throughout the movie like they were potato chips and I got to wondering if the Marigolds that are commonly available around here were edible. I searched around a bit and found this page, but it doesn't really help a lay person like me determine if our local variety is edible. Does anyone know a good resource for determining which flowers are safe to eat? |

| I know nasturium (not sure if that's spelled right) are edible.. And marigolds are good to plant in veggie beds to discourage nematodes.. Try looking in a gourment supermarket.. They often sell edible flowers in the packaged salad/veggie section.. They often list the flowers in the package right on the label..

| I am always game to try new culinary experiences. I will certainly check out the suggested website. Thanks for the info. Oh yes, I also know that rose petals can also be eaten. I put it on cake when decorating the cake and it looks wonderful and tastes just as great. |

| I grow pink Wood Sorrel here. It is great in salads, and makes a very attractive shade border plant. It grows in mounded clumps, and can be mutiplied very easily by dividing the clumps, and replanting. Small bulbs really. I would be willing to share these. They look like bright green shamerocks, and have small bright pink flowers on them. Brenda |

DandelionsWhen I was young we used to make dandelion salad out of the leaves and would even cook them like spinach. Gotta get the young shoots though or its too bitter. Its been a while since I've eaten it because we usually sprayed our dandelions with killer ![]() -Donna |
