lol nope. i don't drink that often. once in a blue moon. i had one small glass of mead. the kind i had was a beautiful golden color & was incredibly sweet & tasty. i don't know how to explain it very well, but it has the fermented taste of wine, but it's made out of & tastes like a really good batch of honey.. it was very delicious! it makes an excellent dessert wine!

i didn't know that mead was made out of honey, until i asked my friend about it. he looked at me like i was retarded & was like "that's because it's made out of honey..." LOL his dad owns a winery in kansas somewhere & makes his own wines & mead & stuff.. but i dunno how all that stuff works!

i want to try some more mead now. i know you can mix fruit with it & also spices so it's like mulled.. mmm. lol i bet it's good!

my husband raises bees and is really wanting to try making mead with extra honey.

He did get into wine making, we have grape vines, and it turned out a little weak, it's like an art, you get better as you go....you do need to stack up on some supplies, large glass bottles, plastic air bubble thingies (don't know what its called) .... buckets, funnels, wine making yeast...etc
Then it's all a process, and it depends on if you're making it from fresh fruits (grapes) or from ready wine mixes....etc....the hard way or the faster easy way? We do it the hard way, and it takes work, practice, time....and sometimes, an explosion, causing lots and lots of grape pieces to burst throughout your kitchen yup...seriously

oh no!!! poor thing! lol i guess that batch didn't want to be drunk!

i'd be more interested in the old fashioned way to do stuff. i think it'd be a nice, interesting hobby to get into.

my friend said you can make up to 200 gallons of alcoholic beverages for personal use per year, according to some federal law... i dunno if that's true or not.. but that's A LOT of alcohol for one person. lol

man.. that mead was good! so i hope your husband's mead turns out as delicious as the kind that i had! that's the kinda stuff you wanna just grab the bottle & drink it all. LOL very yummy! if it turns out well, i'll buy some!!

lol....if it turns out well, we'll HIDE it!! You can't sell alcoholic stuff without a liquor license, but you can give it away..... make sense??? not really

Each batch is so large, we usually have 5-8 gallons in 1 batch...lots of wine!! And its concorde grapes, so it's light and sweet...not my kind of wine, I'm a merlot girl, but it's good as a table wine for guests who aren't big wine drinkers. Hubby and I have a glass of wine twice a week, at least, just to enjoy, it helps me relax and sleep better at night.

I know he has recipes laying around here somewhere....will have to dig them out. but may pm it to you??? not sure if alcoholic recipes are good to just go around posting, not that too many kids will likely be making wines, but 19 year olds could give it a go....

oh, how about you tell me if it's any good & if you have some extra, i might happen to accidentally send you an early or perhaps belated birthday card that may or may not have some dollars in it.. lol *sigh* lol i'm trying, aren't i? that's sorta like stretching the truth.

PM's work! i didn't think about youngun's making this stuff. good point that you bring up!!

i don't care if the mods & stuff can read my private messages. i am not doing anything or saying anything that's illegal.. it's not like i'm running a secret child pornography ring via PM or something. i'm 24 years old & am asking folks for some home recipes for alcoholic beverages. i don't drink often, but brewing my own stuff is something i'd like to get into & would like to be able to talk with other people that do that (since i know a couple have mentioned it on here before).

if they PM me the recipes, no one else on the site can read it, except mods & the admin (which i don't care if they read my PM's, i would just feel sorry for them if that's all they have to do all day) which keeps it out of kid's hands.. i didn't think about there being kids on here, cause i'm not used to hanging out at places where there's anyone under 21. :/ otherwise i wouldn't have even mentioned it in the first place...

i don't know what mad dog 20/20 is exactly.. i know it's an alcoholic beverage, but i have no idea what kind or what it tastes like.. i had an ex boyfriend that drank that, though... i've always been a 'foo foo drink' kind of person, when i did drink.. i've had wine, champagne & now mead... i don't make a habit of drinking & am not an alcoholic. i drink at maximum (so far) 5 times (usually less!) per YEAR. i'm a pretty straight laced individual.

Pay her no mind girl, she loves to tease. Hubby homebrews and is thinking about trying his hand at making wine. We grow our own hops, fun hobby.
