QuestionHey All you good cooks, need advice..

Does anyone on here have a Recipe for making a good coleslaw.. I mean the dressing part.....Mine are either too bitter an now sweet .. I prefer it a little sweet an just a bit tangy.
What mayonaise or salad dressing do you use. Maybe the name is important. Most I dont like.

Also need one for tator salad....Some one said yellow Yukon is best tator.
What dressing do you use?

Thanks ahead of time.

Bali knows not.....

Coleslaw
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup mayonnaise (we have Kraft Real Mayonnaise, not Miracle Whip or
Salad dressing)
1/4 cup white wine vinegar
1/4 cup whole cream
1 head, finely shredded cabbage
** I add 1 or 2 tsps of Horseradish to give it a little zip.

Potato Salad
I like to use new potatoes red or white (they do not go mushy as easy)
Celery
Red onion
Dill pickles, chopped
Bit of parsley
In a jar mix,
1/2 - 3/4 cup Mayonnaise
Dill pickle juice to desired consistency
Celery seed, growing 1/2 tsp
1/4 cup dijion mustard
1 tsp Basil
2 Tbsps sweet relish
1 dill weed
1/2 tsp salt

Hard Boiled eggs

Hey gal, for cole slaw I just use miricle whip mixed with some mayonaise to take the tang of miracle whip away. Then I add a tsp. or so of sugar and add milk and stir to the consistency I want. As for potatoe salad I use the same sauce and yukon gold potatoes are great. HAPPY COOKING....

If I can't find yukon golds I will use any kind. We all have certain things that we like others better then our own. It took my years to learn scalloped potatoes.

I love those too.. I just put sliced tators in a bowl with little salt an topped with lots of pepper.
Of course I add milk first then peppers

DO you make home frys in the oven? I slice them like french an put them in the oven 400 and flip them about 15 min till golden.

We have Mayonnaise in the house all the time and don't use salad dressing or Miracle whip that often. I think most Mayonnaise is the same.
You know with adding vinegar or dill pickle juice will give even mayo more of a tang, so it may not really matter.
With new potatoes white, red, yellow(yukon gold) probably does not really matter. All of these potatoes stay more firm and do not go like mush on outside as soon as if you use baking potatoes. I do not like the potatoes to be over cooked. They cook more once you drain off the water.
I also have a coleslaw that is not done with mayo or salad dressing.
Have cooking Bali,
RC

Hey RC
Do you bake your tators? FOr salad? I boil mine with skins on? Is that wrong?
I suppose pickle juice is about the same as vinegar ? I was adding white vinegar.
Maybe too much ???

thanks.....

I boil mine. The recipe I have used calls for dill pickle brine/juice and because I am using dill pickles, it is handy.
I leave skins on as well.
I find sometimes I save some of the mayonnaise mixture (if extra) and add a bit more at serving time. The potatoes absorb a lot.
I love potato salad.
