Propagating dawn redwood from cuttings

I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on propagating dawn redwood from cuttings? I have one in my yard and would love to make more. We planted it about 8 years ago and the stinker is already a good 30 feet or so.

Anyone have any advice? Would it be better to tey and start them in dirt or in water? Do I need to wait until it grows this year's leaves? (A deciduous conifer, how cool), or is now good?
