Moving a curly willowHey folks, Brand new member here - this is my first post. I live in NC and have plans to move a one year old curly willow. I've read it's better to move plants/trees after the first frost when they've gone dormant - someone tell me if that's wrong. My question is - should I cut the tree back some before I move it? Right now it's about 5 ft. tall. Thanks! CoachG |

| Welcome to PlantSwap! I don't know about the cutting back but it is probably a good idea. I've been reading up on this tree and it is bad for ice damage to the branches. It apparently roots easily in a jar of water indoors in winter.

| Hi CoachG, welcome to the forum. ![]() I've always read that when transplanting, branches should be trimmed proportionally to the damage done to the roots. I'm not an expert in transplanting, but I would think you should trim anything until you actually move it (and can assess how much of the root system was cut). |
