Winkbaby mimosa

This is my first mimosa tree planted that I started from seed! Hope it makes it through the winter here.

Mimosa tree

I think your tree is wonderful. I have tried, and failed to get one started from seed a couple of times. But, I can not see any reason that your tree should die in the winter as we have pretty cold weather here in CT ((zone 5)and there are some beautiful, huge Mimosa trees growing many yards (other than my own). Congrats, and good luck.

Yeah, I could literally send you seeds every year if you'd like. Ours are about to bloom. Of course, they are all volunteers. It's just a weed here (FL). Something that you could never get rid of. They're beautiful though in bloom, and fast growing.

I'll get pics around here when they bloom.
I'll be happy to collect seeds if anyone would like some.

TSS - I appreciate your offer and would have taken you up on it in a heart beat - except that one of my plant friends is going to send me a couple of mimosa babies. Thank you for your generous offer. If I kill the babies I will definately be in touch.

I think that is the kind of tree i played on when i was little....does it grow up to have pink wispy thingies that blow all over the place? Good luck with that! I hope it grows through the winter as well!

yeah its funny but in zone 7 here i cant keep them from sprouting up where they dont need to be, these are seriously invasive here. i feel your jealousy i hear they cant keep the southern magnolias and citrus from spreading like crazy a bit further south. oh the horror of a hedge of wild orange.

Yes, many of us in Texas see them as a trash tree. Trash can be pretty too.

they can be a trash tree here too, they are slightly invasive but I kinda like them still they are very exotic. I have one but I bought it last year but it's the chocolate variety so it has dark brown/purplish leaves. Kinda neat. The deer about killed it though, hopefully it survives the winter.
