I have found the riper the fruit the quicker the seed will sprout. I always wait for the fruit to be a bit soft before I eat it. I started this a month ago in water and today put it into dirt.

Not this one. I have grown them like this before. This one was just potted yesterday. Fresh from the avocado.

I put a pit in my compost and it sprouted ! If you put some soil in a yogurt cup with some holes in the bottom, it will sprout quicker than in plain water. They like a lot of sun, so if you keep yours indoors make sure you have a nice sunny spot for it. They grow very quickly but will not produce fruit unless you have a male and a female.
