Hi there
I would not be too concerned about not having shade....at least 1/2 of mine are in full sun and do just fine.

But I see where you live! Here in NC the summers are scorchers and I'm not sure they could make it. I will be trying though

I understand but most realize that we can easily get up to mid 80's and low 90's.
I plant them in lots of compost and keep them lightly moist.
I have to water my Gunnera Manicata at least twice a day when the summer hits.
I would try a Hosta that has a thicker leaf that may be more resistant to burning......we all learn from trying....

I am actually heading to visit a grower on Friday (I hope) and she has the most marvelous Hosta. I used to visit her gardens every year but since we moved away it is about a 2 hour drive.

Red face

Just joined the forum -- and checked out your link Empress Wu, Kiwi Hippo, Big Kahuna, Arch Duke, Amos and Tom Rex -- just got to have them! My husband said once I hit the 400 varieties it was enough -- but I can't stop! Anyone out there able to trade?

Thanks

Welcome Gary. I am going to wait about the hosta until some of these guys buy it, it spreads out of control, and they have to get rid of some of it. As the song goes 'I'll be there.'

Isn't this a cool group?

I think that depends of where you live. Down here in the South, full sun will fry most hosta or at least stunt it.

No, not yet.....it is everywhere this Spring and the price has come down quite a bit ....as expected. Will get one as things thaw out. Still under 4-5 ft of snow and there is a Blizzard going on right now.

Don't get too concerned about hostas and shade. Most of mine are in full sun. They need very rich composted soil and water regularly.
