Variegated Weigelia huh?
Well, let's see - long bloom period ... lovely scent ... hummingbirds love it ...

Variegated Weigeila

I have a tiny one I bought last year. I was afraid maybe it wouldn't make it through the winter but darn if it finally started showing those beautiful leaves, tiny though they are. I saw someone else posted that they are slow growers so now I know what to expect. Can't wait til it finally blooms!

Is there a Meijer store around you? They had the ones that are about 18 inches tall on sale a few days ago. I snatched 6 of the variegated, 2 of the red, and 6 of the minuet (I think thats what flavor it was). Got them all for around $50.

Variegated Weigela

I've never heard of that store, at least not in the area of PA I'm in. What type of store is it? I've gotten some great buys at home improvement stores like Lowes and Home Depot!!! Lol. Good luck with your shrubs. Mine is a red one. Mandy

Meijer is like a Wal Mart. I didnt think they were everywhere in the u.s. though. Here they are just like Wally world, one going up on every corner. LOL

So glad for this thread

Came across a variegated weigela at Lowes on clearance and snatched it just before a lady showed up with the clerk and bought the whole cart before I even got to see what was on it! At least I knew when I saw this tag that this was going to be a good catch and I got it off the cart before she took it all! $2.50!
Thanks guys-ya did real good!
Kudos!

I just got home from Lowes and got a hanging basket (the black metal ones with the cocoa liner) - it was on a clearance rack for $5. The rest of the stuff on the rack was mostly dead!

Can you just imagine what great buys we'll be getting at the end of the season when we're getting such great deals now? Gotta love that store!! Anybody else getting bargains out there? Let us know.

AFter I lost the race at the Lowes yesterday-

I decided to drive down to the one by the highway. The only residents in the area are apartment complexes so I thought I might get lucky. I did!
I got a mandevilla on a trellis for $13-regularly $26. Also got some variegated spike plants, lots of cheap annuals for my hanging baskets, a purple geranium, a white "Hollywood" coral bell, purple fountain grass, some variegated something or other that I was really impressed with but neither plant had tags. Of course, I bought them both. I told my husband if the kids keep stressing me out with their antics i was going to be taking more trips to Lowes (my bipolar son thought it would be fun to put my baby fantail goldfishes in the swimming pool when I took my husband out for his birthday dinner the other night. He's not even allowed BY the pool without adult supervision but his grown sister thought he just went in the house to go to the bathroom and returned outside to play on the swingset). Pray for me this summer guys. I don't think prison has internet.

Gee Deb that ordeal could scar a kid for life. My daughter lost a kitty she loved the same way-sorta. I had to go out and buy her two himalayan kittens ($ouch$) to help her get over it.
This kid thought it would be fun to watch the adults scramble around trying to catch the fish in the big pool. Never dawned on him the babies would die a cruel death. (I'd like to scar him for life! PIA.)Can you love a kid and want to kill him all the same? This one tests my Christianity cause God says if you love Him you have to love His children. (grumble grumble!!)

Yea you can love them and want to harm him in the same instant. LOL When she took the cat into the kennel she seriously didnt think of the consequences. She felt so bad for a long time because of it. The cat did live but it took a whole lot of nursing to get her back to health. And it was touch and go for a while there. Had to feed her and give her water off the tip of my finger for days after wards. She just laid around and didnt move for about 3 days. But she made it. I cant imagine what Kayla would have felt like if the cat had not made it. Shes an animal lover at heart and meant no harm. She thought it was alright because the baby sitter had cats and dogs in the house together. Small dogs. Our dogs were huskies. I think it scared me more than the kids to tell the truth. I heard this big ruckus in the kennel and knew my kids were in there and didnt know if they were the ones being attacked or not. Now that theres time between us and the incident, we laugh about it. But it was not funny at the time. That poor cat has been put through the ringer. I keep telling the kids she has got to be on her last available life. LOL
