| OH my, these can be very aggressive growers and they will EXPAND. You might want to give them more room away from your wall. I love them, very architectural, but think of them more like large bamboo because that is what they do down here if they can get their roots to water. They are listed on the invasive plant list also for Texas. One specimen above the Blanco river covers a dense 25 yards. |

This is one ofthose I like to look at in someone elses yard. Very invasive here, I see them all over the place but mostly the non varigated ones. Very old plant, see them a lot where homesteads use to be years ago. I agree though if your gonna keep them to put them in a spot well away from any buildings, like in the far back corner of your yard near the woods or something. |

| Notice that all the people who say bewary of this plant are from the south. I think trudy's "left of nowhere" location is southern judging from her have and want list. Maybe the reed has to be coddled up in Zone 5 michigan and it behaves totally different up there. I would check your states invasive plant list to make sure, and ask around to find out how big it will get there in Michigan. It might just destroy that retaining wall when your back is turned. |

| The grass is not invasive here. Probably a cooler climate. This is not the really tall growing ones that I have seen but I havent seen those that are variegated. They are still taller than me and I can live with that. ![]()
