Please help ID this little guy...

Hey all. This is across the street. It is kinda bushy or shrub-ish. It has these tiny blooms, they are long but not big like most flowers. Can anyone tell me what it is? The blooms are kinda cute. Sorry, I am working with a camera phone, so I can't get too close without it getting fuzzy.

That's a wild honeysuckle. Very invasive but smells like heaven. It can be contained if you decide you want to keep it, but you'll have to put it somewhere where it will climb up, not sprawl out, where you can mow completely around it, and where it can't grab hold of something and start climbing on some structure. An isolated old pole in the ground in the middle of the yard is ideal so you can keep stragglers mowed down and you only have to clip aerial stragglers off from time to time. If you do it right, it can be a terribly rewarding plant to have around -- I did say it smells like heaven, didn't I?

When I was a kid we used to pick the flowers then gently pull off the bottoms so the stamen would pull back and there would be a drop of "honey" there we would lick off.

Thanks for the memory, I haven't thought about that in a long time.

Made 3 gallons of honeysuckle wine a while back. Pretty good stuff, just a bit on the sweet side for me though. Only use the flowers. I've read that the berries are poisonous...

Salvia, what a great idea. I never made honeysuckle wine. We brew alot of beer and wine and I have had some grape wine come out too sweet. So I used it for my homemade wine spritzers. 1/2 wine to 1/2 carbonated water with a twist.

Yes, needmore, the flowers are edible, as far as the berries it depends on the variety. Even if you see birds eat them you must be careful as birds can eat some berries that are harmful to humans.

There is also a shrub called "honey berry" that has sweet berrys that are a royal purple. Some people use them to make jam and jelly.

I love the honeysuckle. At our other home we had a beautiful bush and I can't remember the name but it was a honeysuckle that was red and boy you talk about the butterflies loving it. It was covered with them.
