You have a Gunnera there........phew! Looks very healthy. Did you plant it in LOTS of compost? It is a huge feeder.
Good luck.
Take care

Please keep in mind that it will easily cover an area at least 10x10FT so make sure that the ground is well amended with compost, peat moss and well rotted sheep or horse manuer. The ground should be amended about 1ft deep and 3-4ft square aroung the crown. KEEP IT MOIST....

trader was.......

The trader was andapanda and she also sent me sedum and a little stone with crystal in it. Shes such a nice person and I really appreciated the trade. I traded her a snake plant and some wondering jew. But I thought what she was sending was gunnera to I sent her the whole snake plant. She said it was the biggest one she had ever seen and it cost me to send it too but figured for a gunnera that was already established I figured it was worth it. I cant wait to see how big this gets this year.

And by the way, I have plenty of pond water to put on it too. It should be very happy. I have some compost that I can amend the soil with also. After this week I will start working on amending the soil. I have to work every day this week except for Sunday so I guess that's the day I will start amending. LOL
Thanks,
Deb

Very good....I am happy for you....I was quite excited when I got mine. A woman mailed it from Northern British Columbia, on the far west coast to here, on the far east coast, about 2500 miles....so quite a journey.
Remind me in the fall and I will send you Golden Chain Tree Seeds....if you would like. I will not be taking many as the tree will not bloom where the seed pod has been cut off.
Good luck
Don't hesitate with any further questions you may have.
Take care
Gary

Garden Guy, How long did it take for your Gunnera to get that big? I just need to know how fast it will grow so I can make enough room each year for it. By the way your gardens are gorgeous.

The Gunnera in the photo in 1yr old.....yes.... just one. The lady that sent me a piece of hers says that her Gunnera has crowns that are 3ft high (before the leaves appear) and they cover an area that is 10x10ft. She wished she had prepared an area 14X14ft first. Keep in mind that, in the right conditions, will reach in height 14ft + and will have stems the diameter of your arm.
Make sure that you plant the crown above the surrface or the plant will rot.
Good luck....keep me informed.
Take care
Gary
