Hey there!

You're correct on the first, and the second is an Anthurium, with beautiful flowers that look like a penis with a cloak. It could be pink, red, orangey-greeny, or white.
They are actually epiphytic, but I grow them in soil just like anything else. They like filtered light to low light, and do great when kept moist.

Thank you for the information. I am surprised to find out that the second one is epiphytic. Will it eventually droop over the side of the pot kind of like a vine??

Hi

Not many people know this, and the only reason I had known, is because just a few months ago, I ordered a box or two of these from Hawaii, and they list it as an epiphyte. And no, it will stay just like that - but when it gets old, it will build a kind of weird column, which is really neat, and cool.
It's really a great plant.

plant

I got one of those anthurium plants a few weeks ago at of course LOWES for a dollar. I didn't know they bloomed, I just figured it was a cute green houseplant! Thanks for info, although I'll probably end up with it dead over the winter months! Ugh!

hey

Hey Ang, old buddy!
They do flower almost all year - woo hoo! And if I can grow them, you can too! They are easy - treat them kind of like a peace lily and you're all set!

Yo Santoury

So are ya stock piling seeds from that contest ya got going on? If ya have some spares look me up. Are you gonna grow them seeds or use as a trade? I mainly do the seed thing just wandering, so ya know I don't have a special plant to trade ya. Let me know. Never know unless ya ask right?

hey

The contest is first and foremost a fun way for people to play a game, and to win some of my plants. Also, to be honest, it's helping me make some space here, while building up a stock of seeds that I can grow in the spring for the store.
There is more to the game than you think, but you have to play to find out.
