Help for my wounded aloe?

I have/had a really big aloe plant. I put him on the porch for some sun and it appears a squirrel got into the pot and started digging. Now he's totally separated from his root -- just sitting in the pot on the dirt! He's got a tiny stub of a root left.

Is there anything I can do? If I nestle him with some fresh soil will he re-root?

Thanks!
Melissa

Nevermind. I think I found an answer

FWIW, I've been told that I can just repot it in well drained soil and it should re-establish since the leaves close to the bud are still in good shape! I'm so glad!
