Growing Gunnera

Hi
Took these today. My Dog is sitting under the largest leaf, she is a full grown Black Lab. You can see a difference in it every day. It is getting huge.

This is the growing "Flower Spike"

Gunnera

Hi
Apparently the "Flower Spike" will produce seeds..........This plant gets larger every day now.
Its parent plant, the one I received the crown from, is now 12ft tall and the leaves average 6-7ft across. The owner says it will be 14ft+ with 8ft leaves by the fall.
It , by far, is my favorite plant. You do not have to have a pretty flower to have a beautiful plant.

They sure are....quite sharp too.....the slugs hate them...as do most bugs.
You are on the list to receive some.

wow~~ That is a really cool plant! Do you bring it inside for cooler temps? must be..those leaves look rather delicate and soft. What are its growing needs?
I'd love to get some seeds if you think you have enough to go around.

(( insert a begging smiley....but we don't have one )))

Hi
It needs to be covered with at least 3ft of dry straw and a tarp after frost starts to kill back the leaves. The leaves are cut off and inverted over the crown and then the straw is added.
In the Spring, take a peek and as soon as the crown starts to swell you remove the straw and cover again at night till the threat of frost has passed. Then stand back as it will quickly take off.
It will achieve a mature height of 12-14ft with the leaves getting up to 6-7ft across.
You need an area approximately 14ft square to grow this monstrous plant. It will get HUGE!!!
