gooseberry any one?

Sad to say my gooseberry bush didn't make it back this year. I think an invasive vine choked it out (grad school took its toll on that area of my yard ). It likely had lived very happily in my yard for about 30 years. For those of you who don't know a gooseberry is similar to a blueberry in use, the berry is rounder and sort of a pale green striped berry. My neighbor lady taught me how to make a gooseberry pie a few years back - she was 93 at the time.

Does anyone know where or how I could find/start another one?

I bought 3 last year and only 1 survived! BOO-HOO! I am trying to find some localy no success.

I have gooseberry bushes, two of them. But I dont have any starts at this time, other than possibly one that is promised to someone. Since theres berries on it right now, I cant take cuttings either. You will have to catch me in the spring next year to get starts. Jessie, I am in zone 5 and I planted mine right up against the house on the east side. They do wonderfully there. I think they get a little of the heat from the house in the winter time. I believe it helps keep them a little warmer in the winter. Heather, I found mine at a local farm market type store that also sells plants in the spring and summer. I am not sure where you might find one in your area. Sorry I couldnt be any help to you at this time. Later in the year I will get some starts going to spring trading.

Thanks for the gooseberry info. Happy to hear that they are sold "on the market" sometimes. I will dig mine up and expect the roots on the off chance there is something worth working with down there.

I think I have a gooseberry bush.
Does it have needles on it ? Someone in seed swaps sent me a slip and it grew. Only have one.........

Yes, it has little needles or thorns on it. I hope it is a gooseberry and it does well for you.

I planted it across from my black currant bush.. I also have red currants bushes.....
