Cypress Vine

I bought a cypress vine the first of July. I has been in the ground since then. Will it over winter in zone 7b? Does anyone know. I really don't want to lose it. Same for my parrot leaf/calico plant. Will it over winter?

Hey Shellee,
here in zone 8, Cypress vine (Ipomoea quamoclit) is an annual that self-sows with reckless abandon.
I have not planted it intentionally for years, but the hummers love it
so I do allow several vines to grow from amongst the hundreds of little seedlings that will germinate each spring,
the rest are easily pulled out.

Hi

No, these will not overwinter. But by now, you should have plenty of seeds.
As for the Calico flower - I presume Aristolochia? It depends on the species, but I would dig it up and enjoy it inside.

Thanks everyone...I better get outside and do a little digging. Two different views on the cypress....maybe I will see if I can gather some seed and just wait and see...I don't know where I am going to put all these plants for the weather...I told him (dh) I need a greenhouse! Maybe next year!

I think the C vine are annuals here in Austin, but they make a lot of seed and they come back every year. They might make too many seed. I had a lot at the community garden and come August it was the only thing that was alive practically. It was all over all my cages of oriental yard long string beans. The ground was infected with seeds. The seeds come up and they are very distinctive.
