Tree Peonies

I've kinda just discovered tree peonies, along with their very high prices! Does anyone grow them and what has been your experience with them? I wonder if there is some place to get them cheap?

Yellow

Hi
I have one and love it.
It is quite easy to grow but like you said can be quite pricey. I kept an eye on this one for weeks till it went on sale for $19.00.
It now gets about 4t tall and the blooms are huge.
Take a look:

Hi there
It blooms early Summer for about 2 weeks or so.
The fragrance is out of this world. I know when the first bloom opens because I can smell it in the house, if there is an open window.
They are stunning and a joy to own.
I just got a red one this Spring...it is quite small. I want the purple and multi colored orange one that I saw at Wal Mart last Season. They were $19.00 reg price but were gone by the time I got there.
Take care
Gary

Wow!

GardenGuy, your yard must be huge to have so many great trees and bushes. And you say you can open your windows in the spring? I wish I could....we have a few weeks in the early spring when the air-conditioner isn't running.

Bet that orange is quite stunning?!?!?

Absolutely gorgeous! I didn't think you could grow them from seed but I checked that link and I see a pack of 10 for $4.00. Might have to try. You said WalMart has them? Not mine and I haven't seen them at Lowe's or Home Depot!

The local Wal Mart brings them in from Japan....ask your local Store Manager if they can do the same next Spring.
That site has lots of colors for a really cheap price......I must go back and take a second look.

Island of Paradise,

Gary,
Lots of room, and anything to grow that you want, a bit of heaven on earth, and all the sites and smells to go with that,, yes sounds like big blessings to me,, that must be nice growing up like that, no noisy neighbors only land , and scenery, and peace and serene, lots of room for gardens, and flowers and nature,, do the animals bother your plants alot? Or is your yard fully enclosed so they cant come in, its so beautiful, and seems in all the pics totally undisturbered,, blessings, Beth

I really do not have too much of a animal problem.
I have the odd raccoon come by. Rabbits seem to do the most damage when they are around. I have 2 lots of mid and high bush blueberries which I had to fence in. They once ate my raspberry bushes to the ground.....all of them.
I have had Moose, Deer and the occasional Black Bear as well. They have not caused any damage at all.

Good idea....the seeds are quite inexpensive on that site.....we should try a few and share amongst ourselves in the future....
