Pruning Holly

Hello, everyone!!

I need help!! I have 2 holly shrubs that are not growing the way I want them to. They're getting tall and leggy, instead of full. How and when do I prune them to get fuller??

From what I read they said winter, which is why if you want boughs of holly for Christmas decorations there you go. There's never a silly question, that's why this site is so great.

sounds good to me. i usually to trim some off around Christmas, but they just seem to grow straight up, instead of out. So, I see you're from PA, what part of PA are you in? I've never heard of the town you're from, I'd try to spell it from memory, but would end up butchering it. I'm in south central, York County.

I'm in the Lehigh Valley, approx. 60 miles north of Phila. I grew up in Bethlehem originally then moved to Schnecksville 5 yrs. ago when I married my hubby. Grew up in a small city then moved into a rural area. Quite a change but I love it. Not sure how you could make your holly bush out more. Someone probably knows!
