Pest control.....

I am not much for using poisons on bugs but, these guys are probably going to have to be the exception. What kind of worm 'sews' the leaves on a Canna plant to build it's home? There are light gray to brown in color...didn't get a picture, I was to busy squishing them! (Little hindsight there....picture first, squish second)

Will Seven Liquid form hurt the tender inside shoots of the Canna? Or is there something better to squirt on them?

Scott (pictures first.....remember) B

You have Canna Leaf Roller good info and advice HERE.
Like you, I always hesitate to poison the bugs in my garden,
for fear of also poisoning the birds and lizards which eat them.

But sometimes ya gotta do what ya gotta do
something with BT (Bacillus thuringiensis) should be effective, and safe too.

You can soak a mosquito dunk in water and it has BT in it,then drench the plants. I have read that it works. Haven't tried it yet, workin on the ants.

Scott,
Mosquito dunks are for ponds, you can fine them at HG,and Lowes. The active ingredient is BT. I drop them in my ponds when I see squigglers moving... they work well.
Trying to type while Baxter has his paw on mine.

Zuzu,
I am going to try it in my plants too, have a 10 gallon bucket to use,I mix superthrive and fertilizer in it ,and use a 1 gallon bucket to drench plants with it.
The heat has tanked some of my plants,my peony cratered the last couple of days... and the daturas don't look so good. *sigh*

I have alot of dragonflies,so the skeeters aren't too bad now.I think I'd pack up and move back to Ak. if they were bad here now.

Nope ,it's safe ,I haven't lost them ,used the dunks every summer.I 'm not sure how they work, but they only seem to get the mosquitos.Have you ever seen a dragonfly nymph? The things are scary, first summer I had them,I was freaking out,and trying to figure out what they were. After some research, and killing some of them I found crawling out of the lily pots,I found out what they were.
I'll post a pic of them in my pix. UGLY creatues they are.One of the mysteries of life I guess.

Whew, that's good to know.
We love our flyin' dragons, don't want to hurt those babies.

Please do post your nymph photo, I'd love to see it.

They are gross. But good to know what they look like, I would definitely squish had I not known.
