SmileNew Plants or Seeds?

This thread will be to post about what new plants or seeds you've ordered, traded, or bought from the greenhouse to add to your existing collection.

Love to hear about what new plants or seeds other people are getting this spring. Even cuttings too!

Today I ordered a "Truly Tiny" banana plant from Flora Exotica in Quebec. I also ordered a "miracle plant" and a Japanese flowering cherry tree that I'm going to turn into a bonsai! Shouldn't take long for the order to arrive. I'll get some shots when it does.

Anyone else have anything new they're adding this year?

Thanks, Bali!

Got some new Arbutus Unedo seeds too...strawberry tree. Experimenting with bonsai plants this year so I thought this would be another neat one to try.

As well, I have some Chinese Magnolia seeds this season. This is a 25' twining vine but I'm going to dwarf it with pruning, and grow it along my curtain rod.

Talking

On my way now, to pick up my new Betty Mathews wisteria vine that I am going to train into a little bonsai tree!

I found out that wisteria grown from seed will not be true to the mother vine and may never even bloom! This is the reason why a lot of people have wisteria that doesn't bloom because their vine came from an aunt or friend who just happened to germinate some seeds.

If you don't want to waste your time and actually see some flowers one day, you need to get an authentic and named variety from a trusted nursery. I plan on taking cuttings so I can share my vine with others and they will be guaranteed to see blooms someday.

Back soon with a picture...

My newest plant that I ordered this year is called - Christmas Carol Aloe. It is really cute and I hope to see it grow and be lovely by Christmas. Hopefully it will be happy and have babies that I will be able to share.

Good luck with yalls new plants. On the wisteria, if you lived down here holly, you would see plenty of wisteria blooming that comes from seeds. It grows wild here and you can see pine trees just hanging full of purple and white wisteria. Some times even a pink appears.

Sounds gorgeous Tess....love to see some pics if you ever get a chance.

Went and bought a couple apples today so I could collect and sow the seeds from them. My two favorite varieties are pink lady and mutsu....although I don't think they grow true from seed. Think you need two different types for pollination though so I thought I'd grow two different bonsai apple trees in a pot!

I've always wanted to grow an apple tree from seed...even if it takes years to produce any apples. Gonna keep the seed in wet paper towel in my fridge for a cold stratification period. Takes about two weeks I'm told, and they should pop.

So much fun.

Bonsai Experiments

Also got some cherries and apricots today and just finished cracking the shells with a nutcracker, to reveal the seeds inside. Gonna put them in moist paper towels with my apple seeds, then in the fridge for a cold stratification period. The cherries may take a couple months in the fridge before germination will begin.

New seeds are so fun to play around with, and even though a lot of fruit seeds are not true to the mother trees, the seedlings can be unique and extremely interesting.

Got this cute little colourful foliage plant a few days ago at the nursery. It's isn't much right now but I intend on changing this. Loving the pink, white, and green leaves....and the gorgeous bright pink stem!
