Hi! I know about where you're at, been by Pou. before. Just went to Schnectady a couple weeks ago! Not too much activity on this thread/site. But, you and I can yap. Don't know a lot about the tech/proper names of plants but know the few that I like.
Thank you and hope to hear from you again.

Hi Windy, we're still getting going here and new people joining all the time.. Besides, us northerners are still a bit frozen to be planting and gardening like those southerners.. How many inches did you get in this last storm?? We got about a foot here in Pawling.. Just when everything warmed up enough to melt the last coating.. **sigh**

Hi All and thank you! We got about 4" last Friday. Enough to about shut the Island down! LOL! What would these people do if we just dropped them into the north country and told them to deal with it!? I work at a college and we were closed! I was actually heading in when I found out we were closed! I'm originally from farther north of you. Up near Watertown! So, our ground here on Long Island is frozen too. We hired a company last summer to come in a rip out huge bushes and replant a bunch of stuff; it was too much for us to do but this year I really want to do more. It never ends. LOL! I want to put up a small picket fence out front of my house; there's railroad ties across the front now, as per when we bought seven years ago. I want to build a inexpensive arbor over my front door for some vines; love clematis. It gets sun out front from noon on as we face west. The back lawn we'd like to build some sort of a patio with stones; a little oasis. And of course I'd like to do all of this the cheapest I can; which isn't easy here! Any suggestions from anyone??? Any idea's??
Thanks again Gang!
Windy

LOL Windy.. We're originally from DC/northern VA area so planting here is a bit difficult for me.. Still trying to get used to the weather.. I keep thinking that if I was back in DC, I'd be starting out now if not in a week or two.. And it wouldn't be as bad if we weren't in the "snow belt" here.. Just a 2 miles down the road, they get half the snow we get.. My in-laws who live 15 minutes from us get rain or nada and we get snow.. So, our little corner is a bit difficult to garden.. It really doesn't help either that we are in a new construction with a blank canvas here.. The builder couldn't get any cheaper.. We got the bare minimum for dirt. Just enough to cover the granite bedrock under us.. I dig down to plant stuff and hit the large granite boulders about 5 inches down.. **sigh** Think I'll have to spend money after all to get it into any sort of decent shape here.. Can't really landscape without dirt.. At least you don't have that problem right?? Isn't LI all dirt?? I know Manhattan is suppose to be granite bedrock too..
