Imperialis Tree Dahlia

I might have posted this in the wrong forum before.

Hello, usual lurker here....

I've recently aquired a white and a pink tree dahlia root, which I just "had to have". No one really knows a whole lot about it incl myself and when searching the web, see mostly flowers but not the plants itself. Does anyone have some good feedback on what it might look like and how to best care for it? I just know it's suppose to grow up to 20 ft tall, but is it shrubby or tree like. Thanks in advance

TalkingWow!

Ohhh man!! That is one stunning plant!
I had to do a search for it: http://www.strangewonderfulthings.com/105.htm
I hadn't ever seen one of those before.
No wonder you fell in love with it. Congratulations on your new babies!!
Now there is something else to add to my wish list.

The same site (which sells plants) provides a link to some pretty comprehensive growing instructions:

That is soooo awesome!!!

And thank you for those pictures Zuzu! I feel like I've been in a far away fairy land! I can't imagine walking amongst a 20 or 30 foot dahlia. Look out for the ants!!

Thanks for the responses. I had this baby on my wishlist forever!!! before I finally found someone selling them on ebay for a reasonable price. strangewonderful sells on ebay also, but I never had won a bid. The bidding usually goes a bit to high for my flavor, 30-50 dollars or more, plus shipping. I suppose it shouldn't matter if you want it bad enough, but it did to me.

I'll share should I get seed, no clue yet how they grow and how to harvest

Thanks much for the 101 link
