"homemade rooting hormone"

I can't be held responsible for this working or not but I'm going to try it. I found this on the web earlier.

Homemade rooting hormone
Take willow twigs and pour hot water over them. Steep for a few hours. Use to water your cuttings the first time or use it to root them in water.

Sure hope it works.

Deb

I forgot to add that Brenda roots her cuttings in a willow bucket. Water with a willow stick or limb in it. She is the one who said that rooting mediums are made from willow and got me started down this path. LOL
Thanks,
Deb

Willow is where we get aspirin from. Grandmas of old have used tea made from boiled willow bark as a remedy for arthritis. Just a little useless information from Cliff Clavin's sister.

I found that this works on things that can be rooted in water. I didnt really try one in water and one in willow water to see if theres a difference but I may try that in the spring. LOL I dont root things in water now I use the forsythe pots or I use 2/3 perlite to 1/3 potting soil for the things that tend to rot.

Now she has me thinking .......Wonder if one can root faster in aspirin water?

Hmmmmmmmmmmm
Right now I am rooting geraniums , and africian violets..
I just put them in pottin soil and throw a plastic see thru grape container over them, for humidity.........works good.

I do lots of recycling....save all the grape containers, and yogurt cups, margarine tubs..........and anything I think of ..
They sell pnuts in a plastic circle with clear top.. i use them to start seeds also.......Bleach bottles.

Now I better shut up........

I heard about this years ago when I lived in an apartment and could not try it. I’ve heard it works well. I will have to remember this as my neighbor has a curly willow tree that hangs over the street. Trucks are always braking off small branches.

Propagating cuttings

I have many years experience in rooting cuttings. Rooting medium is too important here. Water????? Hope the soil doesn't harm the little wet appendages
once introduced to the real world. I am a Bromeliad man with a background in So. Cal. plant materials. I have rooted cuttings in numbers and a few at a time for personal use. I have had 99.99999999% success with pelargoniums in a mix of 75% medium pearlite and 25% clean sand, NO organic material, rooting hormone normal care. I have had great results rooting Junipers (CORRECT TIME OF YEAR) in a medium S.A.A. (GO 50/50 with the pearlite and clean organic material. A stronger rooting hormone is good. Please share any information you may have during your experiences with me. Gonna be trying Aristolochia seeds very soon, a few species. What incredible vines they are. Hoping so much for success.

Very Best, Ken
