Can anyone relate?

As I was on my way home and came close to my house today, I noticed a car parked directly in front of my house. On closer look, a lady was in the front of my house, with pruners in hand and hydrangeas in the other was walking towards the parked car. When I approached the car and looked in, the driver had a HUGE bouquet of MY hydrangeas on the front passenger side and her mother was getting into the back of car with more of the same in her hand. I told her this was my house and plants. She told me this plants were for her daughter for school. I told her to hand over my plants, she said no and drove off. I told her I was going to call the police and did.

I pressed charges on both of them. The police were very understanding as I almost lost it. And as you plant people know, I dedicated a lot of time, effect throughout the whole year to get the beautiful blooms that I was enjoying. She has just about destroyed the whole bush. My hydrangeas are about 17 years old and each year get prettier and prettier. Now I have holes scattered all over the hydrangea bush. I don't even cut the mopheads off the bush as I do not want to ruin the shape of the bush. They had the ordasity(ph) to take the largest and prettiest mopheads they could being very selective.

It was deliberate and pre-meditated. As I said earlier, they came with pruners in hand. I am still so upset to think that people would do something like this. My house is set back a good ways from the street. They were booked with theft which includes trespassing. Court date is Sept. 9th.

Can anyone relate?

Oh my FD I am so sorry that that has happened I have heard of this before and I hope that they are made to pay and realize that they can't just do whatever the heck they want to. That is sickening to think that ppl have those kind of gumption to do this. It is a shame a real shame that ppl are so inconsiderate.

that really sucks!!!!!!!!!!

Glad ya were able to charge them! I feel for ya! I had a car load of kids pull beside the road and I heard them laughing and quick pulled off, I went down by the road and the jerks pulled out a huge sunflower and just threw it on the ground! I was really ticked off, in fact if I would have a pellet gun I would have shot them in the A--!!!!!!!People can be down right ignorant! There is an old post here somewhere about this sort of stuff happening! I think it happened to me last summer.

FD that is sickening. I'm just glad you were able to catch them in the act so they could be charged. Be sure to take pics of what the bush looks like now so the authorities can see. Nobody has the rt. to just help themselves. I would have been furious too. Unbelievable.

That is amazing that anybody would come on your property and steal your flowers. What kind of nuts are they? They're lucky you don't live in Texas and you didn't have a gun!

Wow, the nerve of people. I can not believe they did this. That is just crazy that someone would do that. I would have been beyond upset if this had happened to me. I am in shock.

FD, how sad....so sorry we live in a world that people are so greedy and self centered that they would go to this extreme...You did the right thing, pressing charges...maybe this will make them thing twice about doing it again...Like Mandy said, take pictures of the bush now..and some until Sept....Like before and after....documents the dates and etc. that will help when you go to court....! God Bless you friend....!

I am very sorry to hear this! It is so sad... I had a simlilar situation where young girls where picking my cherries (I meticulously pick and can all of the cherries off of 2 trees), and I was very upset, by the time I stopped them they had filled and ran off with 2 pails full...
BUT - I do not spend hours (or years!) grooming and babying my cherry trees - Your poor hydrangas! Glad you called the police - that is trespassing too!

Im so sorry . I kow how much work snowballs are to keep looking good. Im glad you got the police to do something. Do you have a before picture? If so keep that one for court also so the judge can see exactly what was done.

I am worried about my new garden in front of my house. I asked my BF to put up a fence accross the yard and as soon as I get extra money Im putting up a gate on the driveway just to be safe. The only ones I have to worry about are the lilies against the fence.

Flowerdazed I am sorry. I know just how you feel. A few years ago I went out to sit in my garden and suddenly realized something was wrong. My stargazer lilies were gone, my hydrangeas were gone, all sorts of roses were gone and my Shasta daisy plant had no blooms at all. They pulled an ostrich fern out of the ground. From what I could tell they got away with a glorious bouquet. A year later my neighbor told me she had chased off a lady who had gone into my shed got out my fork and was about to dig up plants. Where I had a pink/salmon iris planted was a hole so I can only assume it was stolen. Someone also stole a lot of green beans from my garden. My neighbors have lost ornaments from their yards as well. Around graduation time about five years ago someone broke my neighbor’s six gazing balls. They just smashed thing on the street. Another neighbor had one of those heavy cement benches stolen.
I wasn’t lucky enough to catch any of the people who stole from me so I couldn’t do a thing about it. Our park has since put up cameras around so I can only hope that will stop the theft or at least give us a way of tracking people down. I hope these women are also charged with trespassing and are forced to pay a heavy penalty. People have no respect for one another or their property any more. OH I’m so angry for you. I hope your poor plant recovers.
