Anyone ever grow Jicama?

Hello fellow gardeners. Has anyone ever tried to grow these around here anywhere? I posted on another garden site but got no response. A fellow I work with is trying to get me to grow these for him. I have done some research on them, but was wondering if anyone else has tried them. Thanks. Kym

from the looks of these tubers the plant may get very large.

I have tried a small taste of this and it is tasty.

I have one sitting on my counter waiting for me to plant. Just got a pot today. I rad they can get to be vines that run along the ground up to 20 feet long. We have an empty lots behind our city lot that I'm going to see what happens. I'll post a pic in a few months if it goes well!

Never tried Jicama.. Now I'm all curious.. Aroidgrower, did you tried it at a restaurant or did you have someone make it for you?? I'm all curious about it now since I usually grow edible but only those I've tried..

Jicama is great. You can eat it raw in salads (peel it first!). It's crunchy like a water chestnut.

I've never tried growing it.
