UnhappyWhat are these???

For the last 3 yrs. my clematis has been destroyed (down to no leaves) by these insects and nobody can tell me what they are or what to do about them.... they have a hard body (crunch when you squish them) and are kind of a grey camoflage in color (they blend in with my concrete).... any advice??? I have attached a picture

Thanks!
Kim

Looked through this sight: http://www.whatsthatbug.com/ but I didn't see it anywhere. You might want to send them the picture, and then hope that one of those 'bug people' can figure it out?

I sure wouldn't be wantig my clematis to be a restaurant for a bug! Poor thing! I think I'd get the spray and be sure to spray the soil too! If you're not into spray I'd att least plastic around the base of the plant early in the growing period. They've gotta be in the soil if its the same bug each year.

Hello Kim....Looks like you have Vine Weevils....They will not stop eating your Clematis/plants until they are treated and killed....You need to get a Vine Weevil killer....
