Here in the SE the jap beetles are going hog wild on the Crepe Myrtles. I hear it is going to be another bad year for them. I've sprayed my yard for the grubs already. I hope that helps.

Sorry, Angie. Not much you can do except maybe spray your yard and possibly petition your county to spray for them.

Those bags are great if you don't have very many beetles. If you do, I feel for you. I've been there. 3-4 years ago we had a swarm of them so thick you couldn't see 30 yards in any direction. That's NO exaggeration.

Good luck!!

You two have me researching a bit and I'm confused. Are the japanese beetles green or brown in color. I've seen June bugs and the brown smaller beetles but no green in my area. What are you experiencing?

Green beetles

I have had them so bad it was like a plague you would read about. First let me fess up and say I hate bugs, I'm a scardy cat NO BUGS! I scream and act retarded. Yea I believe they come from grubs in the ground, they turn into Jap Beetles, and they will eat all leaves and flowers in site. They are ROTTEN. Does anyone no of a good purpose for these beasts? I don't.

So glad to hear they are green

We have lots of grubs in the lawn and flowerbeds but they must be just the June bugs. As to their purpose-fish bait, bird breakfast and amusement for my cat. Other than that-doesn't quite weigh in the scales when they swarm and eat our precious plants and trees! Maybe the weather will do something to kill them all. Can you put that grub killer in the ground around your house? Will that help? Seems like a bandaid on a chainsaw cut but it may help the immediate area.

When I was a kid, "June Bugs" were pretty big. Big enough to tie a string to one of their legs and watch it fly in circles. Also called "Cotinus nitida"
See below...

Unless it's two different swarms, I don't think Angie's problem is June bugs. June Bugs are about an inch long, front to back. I think (and I really could be wrong) that the bugs she's describing are about 1/2 inch long with brown wings. See pic...

Which one are you describing, Angie?

Thought I would be safe - yeah right! I've been under attack for two days now with those "darn" japanese beetles. Is there truly a purpose in nature for those dastardly pests? I even brought some in with the laundry!!! How gross is that - get one in your hair and that is it!
