Sweet potato vine

Help!! Something is eating holes in my sweet potato vine that I have growing in my whiskey barrel. Does anyone know of a treatment I can put on the leaves that would be safe for the plant? Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks

Check for beetles and caterpillars, I usually spral malathon on my plants to control bugs, but you'll have to read the label to see if its safe for potato vines. Also try a systemic insecticide. The plant "drinks" the bug killer and whatever eats the vine will die. Malathon STINKS! Do not use it around kids!

Welcome. If you see a bug on it thats not something you have seen before, catch one in a jar and go to a nursery or greenhouse that sells pesticides.

Yep, any plant sales person should be able to tell you what kind of bug you have, or you could even show them a chewed leaf. Look online and see what kinds of bugs eat those vines and how to get rid of them.

If this is an edible sweet potato, I would not suggest using any systemics.

Sweet potato vines are so vigorous over here, I can't imagine bugs causing enough damage to worry about. I hope your plant recovers.

There's a sweet potato weevil that can wreak havoc on the foilage. Slugs also like to nibble on the greenery.
