snails

Well I found out what snails really like to eat. My epis, aloe, and some cactus. I thought they only liked dead leaves and leaving slime trails. I guess theres not a smiley for "Well Duh".

Snails

Hello,
First, welcome!!!

Second - I do not use any chemicals at all, but somebody gave me a box of them - One of them is a 2 pound bag of snail and slug killer. Do you want it for postage?

No, I grabbed all of the snails and put them out in the dog run. I happen to like snails, just not on my plants. They normally stay in the dog run. I have one or two out there the size of a half dollar. I watch them when those guys start heading up the fence I know rains coming.
Thanks anyway.

Your very nice to snails....I like putting salt on them. Gives me hours of fun, after they've slimed my house.

Just out of curiosity, what's the active ingredient in that stuff?

I once talked to my vet about why my snail collection was getting soft shells He said it was inbreeding and I needed fresh stock. Thats after he almost choked with laughter.

He said no one ever asked that before. Just how to get rid of them humainly.

Hey - didn't notice you were a moderator - if you are new, congrats!
Just checked the bag for you - active ingredient is Metaldehyde.
Feel free to educate me on what this stuff is.

According to one of my favorite reading sites, it's not good for you!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metaldehyde

Don't think my puppies would want this stuff in 'em. They have a tendency to ingest anything that they get near their noses.(Sometimes they ain't to bright)

Scott (thanks for the welcome) B

Wow

Great link there!
Just noticed a small print label that says it may be fatal to dogs. Great!
The link says it could also be carcinogenic. Wicked!

And just to think people buy this stuff off the shelf.

Well, my offer still stands, if anyone wants it. I certainly don't want to put it out with the trash.

I don't know about puppies being dumb. Puppies always seem to know cactus will stick them. People on the other hand will say will this stick me? Then be for you say yes. They have already poked the cactus.
