Help! I've got a Mole! Grr...

Hey everyone...

I had a buddy send me several maples this week and one of them has been the victim of an attack... an attack from underneath!

I've got a resident mole OR groundhog. I do not know which and I can not find this little dude. All over my back yard are these tunnels that when stepped on, sink just a little. My dog hears and/or smells this little guy but can never find it. He's got a perpetually dirty nose to prove it. LOL

My question to you all is simply this:

How would you go about getting rid of an unknown burrower in your precious yard?

Traps? Poison?

I'm a humane person and I don't wanna kill it, but if I don't it'll never leave. See my predicament? I need some serious help!

Bill, you have some GREAT advice. Any words of wisdom on this one? Everyone is free and welcome to reply on this one. I'll try anything! I've GOT to get rid of this pest!

They say that caster beans are to keep them away, and they look really good in a land scape, and there are traps that you can use. You also can go to your home improvement store, Lowes or homedepot and ask them if there is anything that you can use to repell them away. Hope this helps.

NOt to be a downer - but GOOD LUCK! We had moles at our last house and we could not get rid of them. They had dug so many tunnels that I seriously thought the side yard was going to cave in. One tidbit is that moles LOVE grubs so if you get rid of the grubs the moles will leave?

Grubs are their food. As you start amending your soil-more grubs and more moles. I believe the grubs are immature june bugs. Anyway, the only sure way I know of to get moles to leave their food source is to make them a food source supplement to a female cat!
Good Luck!

Check this out for underground varmints

Well, y'all, we all love to see living things including moles and normally wouldn't hurt a fly BUT there comes a time when things become a real pest and are destructive and have to be dealt with.
We've tried several things for moles to run them off rather than killing them. You can try a little aluminum widnmill that has to be attached to a tall, slender metal pole. The noise is supposed to keep them away. We've had two and believe they work pretty well but the thing wears out in one season. They don't do too well in high winds, or higher than normal...
We've tried putting bubble gum pieces in their runs. We cut them in half. They're supposed to not be able to digest the gum and it kills them.

Then there's the surefire way to exterminate them, groundhogs, badgers and other tunnelers---ground squirrels also-- and is supposed to be more humane than anything out there. I just learned last week about RODENATOR. Google search it and you'll find the website. I did a little reading about it tonight and watched the video but there's no price listed online. Have to contact the company.

Best wishes!

Voles

We have voles here, and my dog gets a brown nose he catches some and bites them and plays with it for a bit then its done! We tried that electronic thing, thats a joke! You can catch them in mouse traps! They eat grubs and will eat your flower bulbs! We still have them but not as many as when we moved here! Good luck!
